    Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, July 25, 2008.

A front will linger over Japan and the Korean Peninsula on Friday. The line of heavy rain associated with the front will drench the region, and potentially cause flooding. Rainfall from the system could also reach eastern China. Low pressure will produce clouds and rain over central Russia, while a weakening front associated with the system will move eastward across Russia, triggering a line of rain across the region. A second front associated with the storm will bring moderate to heavy to central Russia and western Mongolia on Friday, with clouds and scattered showers possible into central China. Meanwhile, a separate low pressure system will bring precipitation to far eastern Russia, while the Kamchatka Peninsula will also see clouds and scattered light rain. Widespread heavy rain and thunderstorms will cover Southeast Asia, while the Middle East will be dry and hot.

Temperatures across most of the continent will be in the upper 20s to near 40, with teens in parts of Mongolia, Japan, and northeast China. Western India and the Middle East will see temperatures rise well into the 40s.

Most of Australia will remain dry on Friday due to dominating high pressure. A cold front will trigger a few showers along the southern coast of the continent, while a weak trough could produce clouds over a few areas of West Australia. Meanwhile, onshore flow could produce a few showers along the eastern coast of the continent.

Temperatures across the continent will be warmer on Friday, and range from the upper 20s to near 30 in the northern part of Australia down to the lower 10s in Victoria, New South Wales, and parts of Queensland.

Dolly's rains continue to inundate Texas and Mexico

    Dr. Jeff Masters

Tropical Storm Dolly continues plowing west over South Texas, dumping huge quantities of rain. Radar-estimated rainfall amounts as high as 25 inches (Figure 1) have already been reported, and Dolly will probably rank as one of the the ten rainiest tropical cyclones to affect Texas. At its peak, Dolly delivered five inches of rain per hour to the coast at landfall. AIR Worldwide insurance company estimates that the total insured damage from Dolly will run $300 million...
